They will join a coalition under GovTech Connect, which promotes collaboration to solve public challenges through innovative solutions.
SANTIAGO, CHILE — IDB Lab, the innovation and venture arm of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, and Chile’s Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation of Chile announced the incorporation of 13 municipalities into the Coalition of Cities for Responsible Artificial Intelligence (CIIAR Chile), an initiative aimed at accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in local governments.
The selected municipalities — Providencia, Vitacura, Renca, Maipú, Santiago, Valparaíso, La Serena, Temuco, Puerto Varas, Puerto Montt, Punta Arenas, Vallenar, and Coquimbo — were chosen from among 38 applicant municipalities based on their progress in digital transformation, commitment to the responsible use of AI, and ability to influence the local technology ecosystem.
CIIAR Chile is part of GovTech Connect, a regional initiative promoted by IDB Lab and implemented by the Red de Innovación Local (RIL), which fosters collaboration among local governments, startups, and technology communities to address public challenges through innovative solutions.
By joining this network, participating municipalities will take part over the next three years in training opportunities, peer exchange with other local governments across the region, technical support, and direct engagement with the innovation ecosystem. The initiative aims to strengthen public management by developing concrete pilot solutions that can be replicated and scaled to address municipal challenges.
GovTech Connect expects to train more than 1,200 public officials in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay, while also developing at least 100 GovTech solutions that can be replicated across the region.
